Age of Claritas - Junior Adventurers
Welcome to Age of Claritas, where we strive to offer fun and fulfilling adventure experiences through immersive and engaging storytelling to children 8-17 years old.
Who We Are
Age of Claritas is a KC-local family friendly live action adventure group. We've been hosting fantasy themed events for children and teens since 2013. Our goal is to get kids outside, give them exciting situations to problem solve their way out of, and let them be creative through character building, costuming, and improvisation acting.
We're proud of our roots as a children's LARP, and we remain the only LARP in the KC area to have children-only events (alternating with senior events each month). Players under 18 are welcome to join us as junior adventurers, and over 18 as senior adventurers. See our upcoming junior events on our Events Page.
Our GMs - Game Masters - have roots in stunt combat and acting, so theatrics and storytelling are a huge focus for us. Our junior community is made up of people with all sorts of interests, including theater kids, DnD/RPG enthusiasts, and a whole lot of kids who just enjoy adventure and swinging foam swords. You can meet our GMs here.
Our Goals and Values
Ultimately, we believe LARP is a uniquely effective medium for children to grow and learn about themselves. For some this is a therapeutic way to play with different aspects of themselves that they might not have an outlet for in real life, for some it's a way to learn about problem solving and consequences, and for others it's just a fun fantasy world to explore. Regardless, we think everyone can benefit from LARPing, no matter their age.
What is LARP and what should I expect?
LARP stands for Live Action Role Play. Different LARP communities have different focuses and styles - at Age of Claritas we focus on interesting storytelling driven by the players' autonomous, in-the-moment choices. Age of Claritas events exercise many skills including improvisation, interpersonal collaboration, and decision making.
In general, junior adventurers will be expected to:
- Use improvisational acting skills to bring a character to life
- Develop a character and understand our mechanical system
- Work with other players' characters to solve problems and make decisions
- Do basic mental math to keep track of stats during combat
- Be comfortable being outside
We understand that there's a lot to focus on! No player needs to do all of these things perfectly, and we're happy to help where we can during events.
Who can attend junior events other than 8-17 year-old players?
Other than our GMs and players, we allow parents of junior players and Certified NPCs to attend junior events.
Attending parent NPCs must:
- Fund and pass a GM-approved background check (this is an acceptable option, but you can suggest alternatives)
- Sign the Code of Conduct and waiver
- Have a child attending the event
Certified NPCs must:
- Fund and pass a GM-approved background check (this is an acceptable option, but you can suggest alternatives)
- Be over 18 years of age
- Have attended at least 3 Senior Events in the past year
- Have attended Age of Claritas events for 18 months
Claritas LLC reserves the right to refuse Certified NPC status to any person even if they meet these qualifications. Certified NPCs can have their status revoked at any time.
If you are interested in becoming a Certified NPC or NPCing as a parent, please email info@ageofclaritas.com.
What kinds of topics do Age of Claritas junior events interact with?
Junior events use appropriate language, avoid gore, and use slightly simpler mechanics, but other than that are largely similar to our senior storylines. Most of our storylines focus on generally fun and fantastical themes and challenges.
Junior events will interact with some serious topics, such as war, death, slavery, poverty, and child endangerment. Age of Claritas does not interact with explicitly sexual content. If there are specific topics you wish to avoid (or do not want your child to engage with), please inform us and we'll be sure to communicate with you.
You can see our junior Code of Conduct here.
